Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a beautiful theme park, but don’t expect a zoo. Although you will see some animals on attractions like the Kilimanjaro Safaris, Maharajah Jungle Trek, and the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, there are also lots of exciting attractions here that are on the theme of animals, different continents, and worlds. The park is broken up into different themed lands, in true Disney style
The Oasis
This is the main park entrance area, and although you may be tempted to walk through as quickly as possible to get to your first attractions, you may want to stop by and check out some of the animals in this area on the way back.
Discovery Island
This is the central hub area around the Tree of Life. There are some character greetings, lots of shopping opportunities and the new show Zootopia: Better Zoogether.
Africa
This land is set up like a Harambe Village and is home to the Kilimanjaro Safari Attraction. You will also want to check out the Festival of the Lion King show. You may enjoy character dining at Tusker House too.
Pandora – The World of Avatar
This land takes you to another place, Pandora. Don’t miss getting an individual lightning lane for Flight of Passage and the family will love Navi River Journey. There are also some unique food items at Satu’li Canteen.

Asia
The top attraction here is Expedition Everest along with Kali River Rapids if you want to get WET! There are also some great food options like Yak and Yeti. Maharajah Jungle Trek is a chance to walk through trails while seeing some big animals like tigers. There is also a great show, Feathered Friends in Flight! that will blow you away as you see the birds do some amazing things.
Rafiki’s Planet Watch
You can take the train out to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. It is a great area about conservation along with some animal interactions (think petting zoo). During Cool Kid Summer, it will also be the home to Bluey starting in May 2026.
Tropical Americas
This new land will replace Dinoland, USA and is opening in 2027. There will be some new attractions and dining options. This land is based on the Central and South America regions. In the meantime, you can still enjoy the Nemo Show that is still open.
Animal Kingdom Tips
Before you plan your day, you will want to know the Extra Magic Hour attractions. There are not as many dining options here but these are the quick service dining options at Animal Kingdom. Because this park closes on the early side it might be nice to have dinner at Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
