Planning a summer vacation to Disney but worried about the heat? You know about sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. Here are some other tips to help you beat the heat and have the most fun.
Cooling Towels & Small Fan
Bringing a small fan or cooling towels are a great way to cool off when you are in the parks. A good cooling towel can really help you beat the heat. I found some great options at Target but there are lots of places you can get them. A small fan (some you can even wear around your neck) can help keep you cool too. You can find these items in Disney as well but you can find some great deals if you get them ahead.
Scheduling
Consider the heat as you plan your schedule. You may want to come to the parks early and then take a mid day break at the pool or water park and then head back to the parks for the evening. This will give you a break from the heat. If you want to stay in the parks all day then consider planning the indoor shows and a lunch for the hottest part of the day from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Do the outdoor shows first thing or toward the end of the day.
Insulated Water Bottles
Staying hydrated is extremely important in the heat. An insulated water bottle will help your water stay cold so it’s even more refreshing. If you are not a big fan of water you can get different mix-ins to flavor it that are small to carry. You can get ice water at any quick service location or refill before you leave a table meal. Disney is now installing water bottle filling stations at the water fountains too. You will want an insulated water bottle more than ever to keep it cold between fill ups. Look for a water bottle with a wide mouth so you can easily fill your water bottle with ice as well as water to be extra refreshing.
Rain Cover/Umbrella
Summer is hot but it’s also rainy. There is usually an afternoon thunderstorm so be ready with a poncho or rain cover for your stroller. You don’t want to come out and find all your stuff is soaked. An umbrella is great in the sun and to create your own shade so this can be a great addition to your park bag.
Raincoat or Sweatshirt
It may be hot outside but it’s cool inside, like really cool. Often dining locations can feel cold after coming out of the heat. Having a raincoat can serve double duty as something to put on in a restaurant and help with a passing shower.
Disneyland
If summer is the best time to get away for your family and you are concerned with the heat and humidity or can’t tolerate it then you may want to consider Disneyland. It is an amazing Disney experience with just as much to see and do. The weather in California is dry, not as hot during the day, and cools off at night a bit. You can definitely have an amazing Disney experience in California as well.
