At Disney the number one priority is always safety. This is true of every Disney destination, but especially the parks. One of the first things you will do when you arrive at the parks is go through security. This can sometimes look very crowded and be frustrating when you are so excited to ride your first attraction or sit down for a meal. However, keep in mind that this is for the safety of your family. We’ve compiled some tips to help make the process easier.
Security Lines
There are usually two steps for going through security. First you will get your bags checked and then you will go through a metal detector. The fastest way through security is the no bag line. If you don’t have anything with you then look for that sign and head that way. You will still go through the metal detectors, but it’s much faster.
One strategy we love to use to take advantage of the no bag line is to divide our party into those with bags and those without. The no bag group gives whatever bags they do have to the “bag people” in our group and take the kids and head through the no bag entrance. The “bag people” take the strollers and bags through the bag check line. The no bag people can wait for us to enter the park together or even go into the park and take a few pictures at the entrance.
Bag Check Line
Use these tips to help you move through the bag check line more efficiently.
- When you arrive at the park and open your stroller throw your bags in it and carry your child if you are able. If you take the time to pack every nook and cranny of your stroller you will just have to unpack it again as soon as you get to security (which is your next stop anyway).
- Take any bag you have on your body completely off your body. You cannot have a strap over your shoulder or they will ask you to remove it before they begin checking.
- Open all the zippers in your bag. They will stop and ask you to do this so have it done and ready. Usually they will close them as they go through the bag.
- Think about the bags in your bags. If you have a first aid kit or another zipped up bag in your bag you will have to unzip and open that bag too. If you do have smaller bags for organization consider getting some clear bags so they don’t have to open them up. It will also help you find what you are looking for later.
Park Rules
Keep in mind the rules of what is prohibited in the parks as well as the new stroller size restrictions. Remember wagons and selfie sticks are not allowed. A full list of park rules can be found here.
Most importantly bring your patience. If you have to be in the park by a certain time for a reservation or special event, be sure to leave your resort early enough to allow enough time to go through security. Going through security is for everyone’s benefit to have a safe and fun day. Usually the lines go quickly even though they look long. Having a positive attitude and some patience will help everyone get the day off to the right start.
