My family just got back from an amazing trip to Dreams Playa Mujeres Resort located about an hour north of the Cancun Airport in Mexico. First of all, when I say my family, I mean my whole family. There were 16 of us in total from ages 5 to 78. This resort is beautiful and had something for everyone in our family to enjoy.
In this episode of Travel Talk, we’re talking about this all-inclusive resort that is ideal for a family-friendly vacation or any special event or celebration. It features 65,000 square feet of swimming pools, an on-site water park, live entertainment, world-class golf greens, soothing spas, oversized luxurious suites, ten dining experiences, plus an interactive Dolphin Habitat. Listen and find out why we know this should be your destination for a remarkable family tropical getaway.
Dining
Let’s start with what is most important to me at least and that is the food! This resort has so many great food options. The World Cafe is a large buffet that is an easy option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. During the day, you can get a quick bite at Tides or have something from Tides brought to your chair by the pool. They have really great burgers, nachos, and amazing fish tacos (my favorite). If you wanted to dry off and have a sit-down lunch, you can also go to Maris, which has great seafood options and a view of the water.
For dinner, there are six main sit-down options, but I will highlight three. First is Gaucho Grill, a Brazilian Steakhouse. If you have never been, this option has a buffet section with appetizers, salads, and entrees. A server comes around with meats and carves them for you at the table. The carved meat was amazing! Chorizo and a few of the beef options (which I can’t even name) were delicious! My second favorite was the French restaurant, L’Etoile. This is a more formal dining experience for ages 13+ and requires a collared shirt and pants for men. Besides amazing food like lobster and crab crepes and filet mignon, the presentation is beautiful. The third restaurant to note is Los Colores. This is Mexican food from Mexico and was really good too. The tequila shrimp was incredible. I already noted Maris for lunch, but this is a wonderful dinner option as well.
Rooms
The resort is great for families because it has amazing room options. The Junior Suites have one king or two queen beds, a nice sitting area, and a balcony with a tub, table, and area to relax. If you have a larger family, you can do a family room, which is a room with two queen beds and connects to a room with a king. This is perfect for families of four or five, especially when there are teenagers involved. My teens love having their own space. There are also preferred rooms available that are similar rooms, but with additional amenities on the resort such as cabanas, special areas on the beach, and a lazy river area.
Activities at the Resort
There is so much to do at this resort for everyone. Starting with the younger travelers, they can visit the Explorers Club and be supervised while Mom and Dad enjoy some time at the spa or at the resort. My niece and nephew had a great time and enjoyed crafts, playing mini golf, and having a meal together. There is also a fun pool/splash area and two water slides that we may say are for the younger kids, but are really for kids of all ages.
Around the resort, there are several pool areas. Some are quiet and some are busy with games for families to participate in. Some have zero entry and others are infinity pools. There are even areas with chairs in the pool, which are very relaxing and cool. There is a spot for every family member to relax and enjoy.
There is also a teen area for ages 13-17. They have an indoor space they can sign in and out of with activities. Outside there is a rock wall, archery, trampoline, chess, ping pong, and even outdoor movies at night. This is a great space for teens and families that are looking for some fun activities together. It is open to everyone from 8 am to 12 pm and then teens only from 12 pm to 8 pm.
This resort also has a beautiful beach. Soft white sand and lots of shaded areas where you can find a few chairs and listen to the ocean. I didn’t see any vendors on the beach either and the water was blue. The resort has its own dolphin experience. This is a great excursion option for kids that doesn’t involve leaving the property.
Recommendation
I highly recommend this resort for all types of families and groups. There was a wedding almost every day we were there and I can see why. The resort has beautiful areas so you can have a wedding or vow renewal. It is a good size resort to keep everyone busy, but not too big. Right next door (there is an easy walking path) is Secrets Playa Mujeres and adults can walk over and enjoy more restaurants and activities if they are interested.
Overall, this is an amazing resort for everyone with great food, a beautiful location, and amazing service.
